We believe education is one of the single most powerful weapons in the fight against global poverty. Education should be a right, not a privilege. Yet in sub-Saharan Africa, as few as one in four children attend secondary school. Globally, more than 100 million children under the age of 15 are not in school. Why? In many countries, the cost of education is beyond the reach of most families.

HERE’S WHAT CANEDUCATE ACCOMPLISHED IN 2011 WITH YOUR SUPPORT:

• 697 Tanzanian students sponsored
• 9 secondary schools participating
• Successfully expanded sponsorship program to Buzwagi area
• Enhanced program to include hot, nutritious lunches at Mwendakulima Secondary School
• School visits by CanEducate board member to verify sponsorships (carried out in the course of regular business at no cost to CanEducate)
• Appointed auditor for CanEducate financial statements
• Added two new board members with strong expertise in financial accounting, auditing and law
• Held regular board meetings (minimum monthly) to advance sponsorships and review progress
